The Twinings ‘Nigella’ campaign was developed to not only display the repertoire of Twinings tea blends, but also to leverage the existing brand heritage and “modernise” the tea-drinking ritual. And teaming up with Nigella Lawson enabled us to do just that. Nigella’s appreciation of all things tasty made her the perfect ambassador to educate consumers of the different tea flavours and drinking experiences in their every day lives. The aim was to break the category mould with the series of five TVCs and to stay away from the clichéd health messages and tea plantation images that are stereotypical of tea advertising. We could then focus on tea being more about the taste and how it makes you feel. The television campaign was supported with product sampling, and significant sales increases were noted across some of the tea blends after just one week on air.
